The Volcano Classic is one of the oldest vaporisers in the market. Surprisingly, it is still relevant and highly sought-after. The Classic was first released in 1999, making it over 20 years old. The original Volcano paved the way for all the other great hits that followed, like the Volcano Digit, the Volcano Hybrid, and the Mighty Vaporiser.
The Storz & Bickel product has been a fan favourite for many vapers for over the two decades it has been in the market. Despite its age, it was so well built that it still rubs shoulders and matches the performance of the best and newer vaporisers in the industry.
There's no questioning the position of the Volcano Classic. It deserves all the praise and positive reviews it has received over the years and makes an excellent vaporiser for vapers that value quality and performance.
How the Volcano Classic Works
Considering the design of the Classic is over 20 years old, you shouldn't have any problems with its operations. Most of the new devices are much harder to operate than the Classic.
One of the downsides of the Classic is that it takes quite a while to heat up. But with proper preparation, you can make this look like a very short time.
Start by turning the device on and choosing the heat setting. This way, it gets going as you do all the other things. Remove the chamber, pack it according to your preference, replace it and wait for the device to finish warming up if it hasn’t already.
Unlike the Volcano Hybrid, which works with a balloon and whip, the Classic only works with a balloon. Ensure you attach the balloon before starting the pump. Once the balloon is full, you can turn off the fan or add another bag.
Vapour Quality
The Volcano Classic is the gold standard for vapour quality. It set the standard for vapour quality at its inception and continues to do so to date. The quality of vapour produced by this vaporiser sets the bar quite high.
Although the Volcanos that have come after produce better vapour quality than the Classic, the latter still does an excellent job of pumping out dense, flavourful and potent vapour.
The extraction of the device is also top-notch. The vapour is smooth and easy to inhale, in line with what you expect from such a heralded vaporiser. This is why the Classic is still regarded as one of the best even after 20 years in the industry.
Manufacturing Quality
The Volcano Classic has stood up to the test of time amazingly well. It has become the yardstick for the quality that is expected of the Storz & Bickel brand. The manufacturing quality is also part of why the Classic and, by association the brand, have grown in size and dominance in the market.
The Classic has emerged as sort of a myth among vapers, with many users reporting to have units that are over 10 years old and still functional. Some even tell tales of how they leave the devices on permanently without any worries. All these stories show how well the Volcano Classic was built and paint a clear picture of its durability.
This same manufacturing quality extends to the rest of the kit, including the herb chamber, 5 balloons, an easy valve adapter and mouthpiece, herb grinder, concentrate pad, cleaning brush, screens, air filter, and user manual.
Temperature Flexibility
The Volcano Classic is slightly short-handed on how well you can adjust the temperature, but it is no slouch. Although its technology is over 20 years old, it still holds up well against some of the new devices.
The Classic doesn't have incremental temperature control. But it has a dial that allows you to tune your temperature. The rule of adjustment is simple; the higher the temperature, the hotter the vapour will be. For most vapers. The 7-8 range is the sweet spot.
Ease of Use
This section is quite predictable. The Classic is simple and straightforward to use. There are no multiple buttons to worry about or a confusing display screen. Just a good old dial and some signal lights.
All you need to do is turn on the device, load the chamber, fill the balloon and inhale. It might take a few sessions to nail down the routine, but once you do, the Volcano Classic vaporiser will do an amazing job of delivering consistent results.
The approach of only using the balloon might seem a little strange, but it proves to be the life of the party, and it is incredibly easy, especially when you’re sharing your vape with friends or strangers.
